Naguib Mahfouz (1911-2006) world wide famous Egyptian novelist and screenplay writer,published more then 150 novels and screenplays beside 350 short stories.
In 1988 he won the Nobel Prize for literature . The first Arab ever to win such prestigious honor and recognition.He actually introduced to the world the core of the Arabic folk’s life ,the hopes, agony, poverty , oppression and the injustice the ordinary people suffer.
In 1994 an extremist ,a member of the Muslim brotherhood stabbed him in the neck in an attempt to assassin him ,for publishing his daring book.”Children Of The Alley.” In which he unveiled the deception and corruption of the fanatic religious men and their ideology of horror, violence to silence whoever tries to expose their reality and radicalism.
Naguib Mahfouz survived the assassination attempt and left Egypt to live in Paris for the rest of his life. This is how the Arab appreciate and reward their intellectuals .Today thousands of intellectuals from the Middle-East and other part of the Islamic world are fleeing their countries to escape being assassinated,tortured and jailed.
